9 Come In 10+ Percent Over Weight Class at Bellator 201

Nine fighters who competed on the Bellator 201 card weighed in 10 percent or more above their weight class on the night of the event.

Alejandra Lara, who challenged Bellator Women’s Flyweight Champion Ilima-Lei Macfarlane, and both Valerie Letourneau and Kristina Williams, are the three most significant of the nine fighters. All three competed on the main card of the event.

Macfarlane, along with co-main eventers Saad Awad and Ryan Couture, were the three main card competitors who managed to avoid the 10 percent mark.

Under new sanctions from the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC) that were passed last year, the commission can recommend any fighter who weighs in 10 percent or more above their weight class on fight night to move up a division. Adding to that, CSAC executive officer Andy Foster says fight night weights will be made public going forward.

Andy Murad had the biggest difference in weight between weigh-in and fight night, coming in at 170.8 pounds before rehydrating to 199.4 pounds — a 16.6 percent difference. The second-biggest difference came from Jay Jay Williams, who went from 146 to 163.2.
