Alvarez Confirms Knee Surgery

On Friday, Golden Boy Promotions confirmed that Canelo Alvarez was undergoing a simple cosmetic procedure, now Alvarez has refuted cosmetic surgery, and confirms he had knee surgery.

Alvarez took to Instagram on Friday to update his fans about his health after undergoing surgery on Friday at a private hospital in his hometown of Jalisco.

“I want to share with you that today that I had to undergo a arthroscopic surgery to repair the internal femoral cartilage and to eliminate a fold in my right knee. I dismiss the erroneous information published by Golden Boy president Eric Gomez. Thanks for worrying, and in three to four weeks I’ll be like new,” Canelo stated.

Alvarez underwent the surgery one week after pulling out of his May 5th fight with Gennady Golovkin, and one week before his disciplinary hearing with the Athletic Commission of Nevada, regarding his two positive tests for low levels of clenbuterol from back in February.

It is expected that Alvarez will face a one year suspension, but due to cooperation with the NSAC, the Mexican star will only be suspended for six months back dated to his original failed test.
