Arum Can’t Decide Who Pound-For-Pound King Is
When it comes to the “Fighter of the year” or the idea of who walks into 2018 as the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing, between Vasyl Lomachenko and Terence Crawford leaves Bob Arum in quite a quandary.
Top Rank’s CEO,is in charge of both Lomachenko and Crawford’s careers, and according to Arum “it’s a nice problem to have.
“It’s a nice problem to have,” said “The Bobfather,” still basking in the glow of his 86th birthday and his ESPN deal, which has TWWL giving more love to boxing since they were showing Australian rules football.
“I once had a similar problem, in theory, when deciding who was the better center-fielder, Mickey Mantle or Willie Mays… it’s the same damn problem, I couldn’t figure it out then or now. They are two really special fighters.”
Crawford unified the entire junior welterweight division with a third round knockout of undefeated Julius Indongo to unite the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO titles in July 2017. And back in May, he stopped Olympic gold medal winner Felix Diaz.
For his part, Lomachenko walked through his last three opponents former champion Jason Sosa, Miguel Marriaga and more recently, two-time Olympic gold winner Guillermo Rigondeaux.
