Arum: Lomachenko Gets Best Fighter Available
Even though Manny Pacquiao wants to be next for Vasyl Lomachenko, the new WBA lightweight champion may have someone else waiting for him.
Mikey Garcia is the name that most in boxing are looking at as the next big fight for the former Olympian, especially since he decided to defend his lightweight title and vacate his 140 pound crown.
And while both fighters may want to face off, and boxing fans would want to see that fight, the acrimonious relationship between Garcia and his former promoters at Top Rank, may create a problem.
When asked by BoxNation for his thoughts on a Garcia-Lomachenko fight, Top Rank founder Bob Arum was less than hopefull. “With a Mikey Garcia [fight], it becomes the second coming of Mayweather vs Pacquiao. The negotiations will go on.
“I may be 90-years-old by the time negotiations finish. I’m tired of that. Whoever’s the best available, whichever makes the most sense, that’s what we’re gonna go after.”
While Garcia is the ideal option and Pacquiao as the potentially most financially rewarding option, Lomachenko may end up facing off with Top Rank stablemate and WBO lightweight champion Ray Beltran, who would probably be the easiest negotiation for Top Rank.
