Askren To Debut At UFC 233 Against Lawler

Ben Askren has got what he’s wanted, his first UFC fight against a top-10 opponent, as the former Bellator and One Champion will face Robbie Lawler at UFC 233.

Askren, who was traded for former UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson, has been calling out any and every welterweight that is not Tyron Woodley and gets Lawler in his first fight since a unanimous decision loss to Rafael dos Anjos in December 2017. During the fight Lawler would tear his ACL which has kept him on the shelf ever since.

The story was confirmed by MMA Junkie, after ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported the story via Dana White.

UFC 233 and Askren’s debut happen on a big night in MMA on January 26th, as the UFC will be at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, while down the road in Los Angeles at the Forum, Bellator will hold the finals of the Heavyweight Grand Prix.
