Andrzej Fonfara was born in Warsaw, Poland on November 4th in 1987. The progression of his boxing skills was evident in his amateur accomplishments. In 2003, at 16 years old, Fonfara won a bronze medal in Poland’s Nationwide Youth Olympics. In 2004 he won bronze in Poland’s Junior Championships, and a silver medal in the Polish Junior Cup competition. The following year he put it all together to win the gold medal at the Polish Junior Championships and turned pro in 2006.

After making his pro debut, which he won via majority decision, Fonfara moved to Chicago, Illinois in the U.S. and has fought the majority of his fights in his adopted home state of Illinois. He began his pro career as a super welterweight and has fought at welterweight, middleweight, and super middleweight before settling into the light heavyweight division in 2010.

In 20120 Fonfara received his first world title fight when he fought Tommy Karpency for the vacant IBO light heavyweight world title. Fonfara knocked Karpency out in the 7th round to become world champ. In 2014 Fonfara fought the top ranked light heavyweight in the world Adonis Stevenson for Stevenson’s’ WBC light heavyweight world title but was overmatched and was knocked down twice which ultimately led to a unanimous decision loss. In 2015 Fonfara won the WBC International light heavyweight title and is working his way back into world title contention in hopes of getting a rematch with Stevenson.
