Bio

Rashad “Suga” Evans was born in Niagara Falls, New York in the United States on September 25th in 1979. Evans was a NCAA Division I wrestler and now holds a black belt in no gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Evans made his professional MMA debut in 2004 when he fought twice in one day, winning his debut by 1st round submission and then winning the next fight via 1st round knockout. Evans then fought again less than two months later and again fought twice in one day when he competed in the Gladiator Challenge light heavyweight tournament. Evans won both matches and amazingly fought the championship match the following day. The 5-0 start with so many fights in so little time was enough for the UFC to sign him to compete on season 2 of their reality show “The Ultimate Fighter.”

Evans fought as a heavyweight on the show and won the entire competition to earn a contract with the UFC. He immediately dropped back down to his more natural light heavyweight division and in 2008 won the UFC light heavyweight title. Evans lost the title to Lyoto Machida in his first title defense and has been trying to win it back ever since. Injuries have severely cut into his training time and ability to fight more frequently, and a loss to Ryan Bader at UFC 192, Evans’ 3rd loss in his last 5 fights, may mean the end of “Sugas” fighting days are near.
