Bellator Kickboxing 7 Recap
Kevin Ross made history at Bellator Kickboxing 7, defeating Domenico Lomurno via split decision to become the first-ever Bellator Kickboxing Featherweight Champion.
Most of the main event bout saw Ross try to keep Lomurno at mid-range or a distance, while Lomurno looked to work the inside.
The opening round had a bit of a slow start, with Lomurno focusing more on strike combinations, while Ross worked leg kicks. But Ross had quite the better second round, with significant strikes including an attack of Lomurno’s lead leg and a head kick late in the round. To Lomurno’s credit, however, he fired back with a couple of combinations and worked the body when Ross attempted to apply pressure.
Ross started by delivering high kicks but Lomurno worked the inside, but eventually Ross took over control in the third and fourth rounds. In the fifth, Ross utilized a sharp right hook and worked the body well, while Lomurno threw combinations and knees that landed square in on Ross.
At the end, there was a split decision. While Lomurno earned a 48-47 decision from one judge, the other two gave the fight and title to Ross with scores of 48-47 and 49-46.
In the co-main event, Raymond Daniels scored a first-round TKO over Karim Ghajji to become the new Bellator Kickboxing Welterweight Champion. A strong knee from Daniels during the first round opened up a deep cut between the champion’s eyes. A look from the doctor after the round saw the medical official wave off the fight, giving the win and title to Daniels.
