Bellator Release Welterweight Grand Prix Brackets
As Bellator heads towards its first live streaming event on DAZN, they have released the brackets for their upcoming Welterweight World Grand Prix.
The tournament begins on the first DAZN card on September 29th from San Jose, as Douglas Lima and Andrey Koreshkov are the first of eight opening round fights.
The winner of the Koreshkov and Lima fight at Bellator 206, will face off against the winner of a highly anticipated Michael Page and Paul Daley fight later this year.
Undefeated fighters Neiman Gracie and Ed Ruth square off in a quarterfinal fight, facing the winner of welterweight champion Rory MacDonald’s defense against former World Series Of Fighting champion Jon Fitch.
Yaroslav Amasov (20-0 MMA, 1-0 BMMA) and Lorenz Larkin (19-7 MMA, 1-2 BMMA) will fight each other in an alternate bout, with the winner available to step into the eight-man bracket if necessary.
All tournament bouts will be five rounds, regardless of title-fight status, according to a news release from Bellator.
An added hitch for the welterweight grand prix is the inclusion of current champion MacDonald, as following MacDonald and Fitch’s opening round fight, the winner will have to defend the belt in each round of the tournament, leading to a title defense in the Grand Prix Finals.
