One of the most popular female boxers in the U.S., Heather Hardy recently announced a move to mixed-martial-arts. Now, the Brooklyn native has signed with one of the sport’s major promotions, as Bellator has brought on Hardy for their first show in New York.
Hardy will make her Bellator debut at Bellator 180 at Madison Square Garden on June 24. She will take on Alice Yauger in a flyweight bout.
The signing will draw additional eyes to the promotion’s NYC debut, as Hardy has a wide fanbase in New York and has been a staple of promoter Lou DiBella’s "Broadway Boxing" shows.
Last year Hardy announced that she was moving to MMA because of the lack of money in women’s boxing. She was signed by Invicta and was set to make her MMA debut at Invicta 21 against Brieta Carpenter. That fight fell through, however, when Carpenter withdrew from the contest with an injury.
Yauger has an MMA record of 4-5 and last lost to Jessica Middleton at Bellator 171.
