Broner’s Promoter Confident He Can KO Pacquiao
Manny Pacquiao is aiming for a possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather, but he will first have to get through a WBA (Regular) Welterweight Title defense against Adrien Broner — who is on a mission of his own.
This will be the first title defense of Pacquiao, who is competing in his 70th bout as a professional, since claiming the title from Lucas Matthysse back in July.
The eight-division world champion now has 60 wins on his career, but he is 5-5 in his last 10 bouts.
Broner, meanwhile, has won titles in four different weight classes and at one point — when he was 27-0 — was considered the heir apparent to Mayweather.
Broner, however, has lost three of his last 10 fights. He has only competed once in 2018, a draw against Jessie Vargas back in April. But Ravone Littlejohn, who runs Broner’s About Billions Promotions, feels Broner can get back on a better path and score the biggest win of his career with just one punch.
“It’s going to be a great fight. If my man AB hits the right shot, it could be a short night,” Littlejohn said. “We’ve never been down for the count, and we’re not going to start now. We know the position we’re in. It’s a pleasure to fight a legend like Manny Pacquiao.”
Pacquiao and Broner face off on Jan. 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas — the same arena where Juan Manuel Marquez knocked out Pacquiao in December 2012.
