Brook-Spence: 17,000 Tickets Sold in a Day
17,000 tickets have been sold on the first day of general sale for the IBF World Welterweight blockbuster between champion Kell Brook and Errol Spence at Bramall Lane in Sheffield on May 27.
Brook defends his title for the fourth time having dispatched Jo Jo Dan, Frankie Gavin and Kevin Bizier inside six rounds before stepping up to Middleweight to take on feared Kazakh star Gennady Golovkin in September – and now the Sheffield star faces another unbeaten machine in Spence.
The American travels to Yorkshire for his first World title fight having landed the mandatory position by blasting Leonard Bundu away inside six rounds in August, the eighth straight stoppage win for the Texas-based New Yorker who went into the fight after destroying Chris Algieri inside four rounds two months earlier.
Brook’s massive following in the U.K. was on display in September when he took on middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin. Though he eventually succumbed to GGG’s power in the fifth round, Brook proved that he was as game as an opponent can be and put on a show while he could in front of the London crowd.
Though GGG was the only man to defeat Brook, Spence has yet to be bested at all in the ring. At 21-0 with eight straight knockout victories, Spence is as promising of a prospect as there is in this sport. If he can defeat Brook on the Englishman’s home turf, Spence will go a long way in proving himself to be deserving of the hype surrounding him.
