Canelo-GGG Earns 3rd Highest Gate In Vegas History

While the result of the much anticipated middleweight match-up between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin was a disappointment, the gate numbers were a very welcomed piece of news.

Boxing reporter Jake Donovan confirmed with the Nevada Athletic Commission that the September 16th pay-per-view main event pulled in a live gate of just over $27 million, third all time in the state of Nevada. The only fights above Canelo and Golovkin were Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao (approx. $72.2 million) and last month’s Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor (approx. $55.5 million).

And with rematch talks ongoing for Alvarez and GGG to face off most likely Cinco De Mayo weekend of 2018, one would think that we may see this number bested by the rematch, especially due to the fight ending with a draw featuring a 118-110 Alvarez card by judge Adalaide Byrd which has been a source of contention in the boxing community since fight night.
