Chavez Jr. Set To Fight In January
Former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. revealed that he will return to the ring on January 26 in Los Angeles, California.
Chavez Jr originally was hoping for a fight in December, but due to a litany of fights populating the month, his team including adviser Al Haymon, they decided on January.
Chavez Jr looks to bounce back from a devastating loss to Canelo Alvarez in May of 2017, and also reclaim his coach Nacho Beristan, who have not spoken to one another following the one sided loss to Alvarez.
“I feel like I already paid what I had to pay after that fight, I killed myself for the weight, I fought until I had a neck injury but it’s fine, I did the best I could that night, and now, they are peppering me. Now I have to focus well in my return.”
Nacho claimed in a recent interview that Chavez Jr. had vanished and cut off communication . With that being said, Chavez Jr claims that talks are happening.
“I heard what Nacho said, but it’s my friend Lupe Valencia who has been in communication with him and he knows that I want him in my corner, I hope to reach an agreement with him for my next fight.”
Chávez claims that there are a couple of fighters as possibilities for his next opponent, but there is no agreement with anyone and he prefers to wait until the promoter can announce his return.
“All they did after the Canelo fight was to blame me, this time I want a good camp, as we did with Freddie Roach and Alex Ariza. I’m not going back with them but I want to do something like that with Nacho, just a few people in camp, not a festival , maybe the pressure was too much for many and in the end it did not turn out as we wanted. I hope to show that now at my right weight things will be better, not just different.”
