The anticipated final face-off between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov at the UFC 229 ceremonial weigh-ins was, as expected, intense.
UFC President Dana White and several security members had to come between and separate the two, who were eager to get in each others’ faces. In fact, McGregor even threw a kick at the UFC champion.
But when UFC color commentator Joe Rogan interviewed McGregor immediately, he seemed less focused on the Russian fighter. Rather, he embraced the UFC fans and gave Rogan some advice.
“Don’t let that smelly rat put that hat on your head, Joe,” McGregor said. “The smell of that f***ing thing. Don’t ever let him put that hat on your head.
It’s good to be back. UFC fans, it’s good to be f***ing back. The king is home.
Nurmagomedov, who received a ton of boos from the pro-McGregor crowd, gave a fair warning to the Irish fighter’s fans — that they will be left disappointed and distraught.
And yet, he also offered sincere thanks at the same time.
“Tomorrow night, I’m going to smash your boy, guys. I’m going to smash your boy,” Nurmagomedov said. “And I want to say thank you all Irish fans, all fans around the world. Because of you guys, this fight is happening. Thank you guys and tomorrow night, inshallah, and still.”
