Cormier to Coach Hometown Wrestling Team
Daniel Cormier has added another job to his already heavy workload, as the UFC light heavyweight champion, Fox Sports 1 and UFC color analyst, and father, is now a coach.
Not only will Cormier coach on the new season of the Ultimate Fighter, alongside his UFC 226 opponent and UFC heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic, he has been named the head wrestling coach of Gilroy High School.
Cormier will continue serving as the head coach of the Daniel Cormier-AKA Youth Wresting club, on top of his responsibilities at two local San Jose gyms, LUTE! Training Academy and Knoxx Gym.
“This opportunity is huge for me,” Cormier told MMAFighting.com. “Wrestling has been the foundation for everything I’ve done. I’m excited to coach a great team in Gilroy and excited to give back to the town that has accepted me and my family so openly.”
Cormier will also forego his stipend and pass it along to his assistant coaches, MMA veteran Shawn Bunch, a two-time NCAA All-American at Edinboro University, and MMA prospect Kyle Crutchmer, a two-time NCAA All-American at Oklahoma State University.
“Thank you to (principal) Dr. Marco Sanchez for giving me this opportunity and thanks to my wife Salina for allowing me to pile more onto an already full plate,” he added.
