Cotto Signs With Golden Boy Promotions
Miguel Cotto has been a staple in big fights for decades, and the Puerto Rican boxer is now planning to step away from the sport. First, Cotto has inked a surprise multi-fight deal with Golden Boy Promotions that will likely include his final bouts as a pro.
Cotto (40-5) is facing Yoshihiro Kamegai this August in a bout promoted by Golden Boy. The fight will mean the start of the partnership between Cotto and Golden Boy, as Ring TV has announced that Cotto has signed a deal for several fights.
“Miguel Cotto is not only a legend in the ring, but on the entire island of Puerto Rico, which has one of the richest boxing traditions around the globe,” said De La Hoya, the Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “Our new partnership will include Miguel’s upcoming fights, working with Miguel Cotto Promotions’ talented stable of fighters and revitalizing boxing in Puerto Rico.”
“I’m very proud to establish a tremendous partnership with Golden Boy Promotions and Oscar,” said Cotto. “It couldn’t work better — from a boxer to a boxer. We share the same mentality and language of the sport and the business. We will create the perfect opportunities for the sport of boxing and the fans.”
Cotto and Kamegai will fight for the vacant WBO junior middleweight title on August 26 at the Stubhub Center in Carson, California.
