Dana: Jones Is The Greatest Waste Of Talent
In a recent interview with The TSN MMA Show, Dana White asserted his claim that if Jon Jones latest issue with USADA result in another long-term suspension, the former two-time UFC light heavyweight champion will be the biggest waste of talent not just in MMA, but in the history of sports.
“[It would be the biggest waste of talent] ever. Ever, in all of sports. The guy is so talented and gifted, God knows what he’d be doing right now if he had never got in trouble. He could possibly be the heavyweight champion and have the defense record that couldn’t be broken. The list goes on and on of what could’ve been with Jon Jones.”
Jones not only has been a two time light heavyweight champion, but also the youngest fighter to ever hold a title in the UFC. Compounded with eight successful defenses (third all time behind Demetrious Johnson and Anderson Silva), Jones can be considered the greatest of all time. Yet, with these issues with substance abuse and performance enhancing drugs have led to Jones’ being stripped of UFC gold a record three times, and now facing a four year suspension from competition.
And while Dana White has been one of Jones’ biggest defenders and champions, it doesn’t seem the UFC president is holding on to much hope for good news.
“Whatever happens [with his suspension], happens. Believe me, I’m not mentally or emotionally invested in that anymore.”
Jon Jones has a hearing with the California Athletic Commission in December in Sacramento, California.
