Davis Takes Three Tries to Make Weight
IBF super featherweight champion Gervonta Davis missed weight two times on Friday ahead of his title defense against Liam Walsh in London. Eventually, Davis managed to successfully make the 130 lb. limit on his third try so that the fight could go forward.
After Davis weighed in overweight, he returned to the scale and missed the limit yet again, this time by only an ounce:

Given Davis’s struggles to make weight there were talks that he could potentially have to forfeit his IBF belt if he couldn’t hit the scales at 130. All that talk was moot at the end, because the Mayweather Promotions budding star was able to make weight on his third try.

In the end the fight will go forward as scheduled, but Davis’s struggle to make weight is a concern as much stock has been placed in him as a professional and champion. As long as he continues to stay disciplined and make the contracted weight, he is one of the best fighters at 130 lbs. already and is a potential future star of the sport.
