Demetrious Johnson Undergoes Surgery

UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson underwent surgery on Wednesday.

Johnson confirmed to MMAFighting, who broke the story, he had successful left shoulder surgery. There is no time table for recovery and/or a return to the Octagon, but it was a needed procedure as Johnson was suffering shoulder pain since December.

Johnson went 2-0 in 2017, while tying and setting the mark for the most successful title defenses in UFC history.

When Johnson returns, the UFC is hoping to book Johnson vs. bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw for Johnson’s flyweight title later this year, however, no deal is close to being finalized for that fight, sources say, and, if the fight is eventually signed, it is not expected to happen before at least April.
