Edgar Out of UFC 218 Main Event

Another untimely injury forces a change to a UFC Main event, as Frankie Edgar has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 218 fight against UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway.

Per MMA Fighting, Edgar suffered the injury  in training and will be able to fight in 12 weeks.

Holloway was looking win his 12th straight fight, which saw Holloway win the featherweight championship in June against Jose Aldo.

Hours before the news of Edgar’s injury broke, Holloway expressed his frustration on Instagram utilizing the popular meme from PBS kids program, Arthur.

While Holloway hopes for a replacement for UFC 218, Edgar posted his own statement via Instagram.

 

 

 And Holloway may get a replacement in former UFC champion Jose Aldo, who made it clear he’s game for a rematch.

 

Edgar (22-5-1), meanwhile, had won seven of his last eight fights, including two straight against Stephens and Yair Rodriguez. A former lightweight champion, Edgar was vying to become only the fifth man in UFC history to hold titles in two different divisions.

UFC 218 takes place at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. An updated fight card can be seen below.
