EFC 74 Recap: Kabesa Keeps His Title
Igeu Kabesa successfully retained his EFC Featherweight Title with a win over Calum Murrie by decision in the main event of EFC 74.
Murrie came out throwing some powerful sidekicks in the first, and while he was taken down by Kabesa, Murrie got back to his feet and the two got to exchanging right away. Murrie attempted to pull guard while standing multiple times throughout the first but eventually slipped off twice before failing in the third attempt.
The second round featured each man landing a hard sidekick, but it again featured a big clinch battle and each man committing an accidental foul. But midway through the round, Kabesa knocked Murrie with a straight punch, rocking the challenger and forcing him into retreat and back to clinching. Late in the round, Murrie finally successfully pulled guard, locking in a standing body triangle, but Kabesa managed to dump Murrie on his head with a judo throw right before the bell.
After a quiet third round that featured more clinching, Kabesa managed to take Murrie down with another throw in the fourth. Murrie was rocked yet again, forcing him to retreat, but Kabesa’s attempt at a jumping kick failed, and Murrie made the fight a clinch fest for the rest of the round once more.
Kabesa spent the fifth round in dominant control once again, forcing Murrie on his back foot some more, with Murrie not providing much effective on the offensive front.
It was an easy victory for Kabesa, who swept two judges’ cards and won 49-46 on the third.
