Ferguson-Pettis Added To UFC 229

Tony Ferguson will make his return to the Octagon the same night as Conor McGregor, as the former interim lightweight champion will square off against Anthony Pettis on October 6th at UFC 229.

Ferguson is on a 10 fight win streak, but has not fought since UFC 216, when he defeated Kevin Lee for the interim lightweight crown. He was set to face Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223, but would pull from the event after a knee injury while on the FOX lot in Los Angeles.

Pettis has gone 2-1 in his last three fights and stopped Michael Chiesa in the second round via submission at UFC 226.

The main event is Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor battling for the UFC lightweight title, which Ferguson feels he still has a claim to. According to UFC President Dana White, he will not book another fight between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson, which may mean the only way Ferguson gets a title shot is against McGregor.
