Finkel Responds To Hearn’s Claims
Following Eddie Hearn’s comments in an interview with Boxing Scene last week blasting him, Deontay Wilder’s manager Shelley Finkel has responded.
During the post-fight press conference for Wilder’s win over Luis Ortiz, Finkel discussed that he’d not heard from Hearn since a November email regarding any negotiations for a unification fight between Wilder and Anthony Joshua.
Hearn replied with a scathing attack on who he referred to as “Shirley Winkel” in an interview with Boxing Scene, lambasting the decision to share the private email.
Finkel has replied and claims that Hearn is just making excuses, because of claims that Wilder demanded 50-50 after the email between the two with Hearn claiming he’d email back with an offer soon.
“The problem with that answer is that Deontay didn’t say that until a month after I met with Barry Hearn. So it wasn’t that Deontay said that, and that’s the reason Eddie didn’t call. Now he’s using that as an excuse, but that happened a month later. It didn’t happen before then.”
Winkel also stressed in the interview that both side really should not wait to make the fight, as the time is right for unification.
“There has been a lot of great coverage of it. And God forbid something had happened [in Wilder-Ortiz] that went the wrong way, or something happens to either guy by taking more fights. Then you’re missing a great opportunity to unify the heavyweight championship. It’s simple.”
