Garcia vs. Broner Set for July 29
After making a spectacular return to the ring earlier this year with a title-winning knockout victory, Mikey Garcia has his next fight lined up for the summer. He will move up in weight to face Adrien Broner on July 29 in a Premier Boxing Champions main event.
The bout had been discussed for the past several weeks and was officially announced by Showtime Sports on Thursday.
Garcia (36-0) had been absent for the sport for over two years when he came back to beat Elio Rojas last July. Then he was absent again until January, but looked better than ever when he knocked out Dejan Zlaticanin to win the WBC lightweight title.
Rather than defend his newly-won belt, he will move up to junior welterweight for a high-profile fight with Adrien Broner.
Broner (33-2) has made headlines for his troubles outside of the ring lately, but in the ring he has looked solid since a 2015 loss to Shawn Porter. He last headlined a card in February and bested Adrian Granados by split decision.
