Gustafsson Hopes For “Anyone” At UFC 229

Alexander Gustafsson was set to fight Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 227, but both men would suffer injuries and pull out of the event.

Oezdemir would be pulled due to a broken nose, while Gustafsson was pulled due to a ‘minor injury’ which would stop any chance of a replacement fight being made for UFC 227.

“It’s just a minor injury,” he said. “It’s nothing to talk about really. It’s just a [expletive] thing, and it gets on my nerves. But it is was it is. I’m here now, and I’ll do everything in my power to bounce back, and I will in a couple of weeks.”

Gustafsson is back training and is eyeing a fight on the UFC 229 card main evented by Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.

“I had some problems before my fight. I got injured, but I am here and training,” Gustafsson told MMA Viking at Stockholm’s AllStars Training Center, per BJPenn.com’s Tom Taylor. “S**t happens. I have been having issues with my back thigh, but I feel good.

“I’m looking forward to my next fight,” he continued. “I’ll fight anyone. “Hopefully the 6th of October. I am ready.”

While the full main card was set, Gustafsson is looking to return for his first fight since a stoppage win over Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night 109 in May 2017, and is hoping to get his rematch against UFC heavyweight/light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.
