Hearn Blasts Idea of Schwarz-Fury
This week, a fight between Tyson Fury and German contender Tom Schwarz has been floated for Fury’s debut on ESPN, and not everyone is a fan of the idea..
“It’s a terrible fight when you go from rematching Deontay Wilder to then fighting Tom Schwartz. I have to admire Tyson Fury. If he’s getting paid the type of money he’s reportedly getting paid to fight Tom Schwarz, congratulations,” Promoter Eddie Hearn told Boxing Social.
While there was a rumor that the winner of Fury-Schwarz would be the mandatory challenger to Anthony Joshua’s WBO title, Hearn outright denied the idea.
“[Oleksandr] Usyk would be mandatory for Joshua,” claimed the Matchroom boss. “When you’re a super champion at the weight below and you move up in weight you become automatic mandatory. I don’t think Tyson wants to be a mandatory at 30% when he’s already been offered 40%,” Hearn said of the undisputed cruiserweight champion looking to move to heavyweight this year.”
Hearn doesn’t believe Fury is interested in becoming the mandatory challenger, because a purse bid would create a 70-30 split in-favor of the champion, which is less than the 50-50 split Fury has demanded since his return in 2018.
