Hearn: Saunders vs. Andrade Set For October 20 In Boston
Demetrius Andrade’s shot at the WBO middleweight title will take him to Boston to challenge Billy Joe Saunders.
According to Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, the WBO middleweight title fight is headed to the TD Garden in Boston, home of the NBA’s Boston Celtics. The fight will take place on October 20 and is expected to be streamed on the DAZN platform.
“I’m very excited. [Boston] is another fight city that hasn’t had the big nights as regularly as it should do. Andrade against Saunders is one of the best matchups in the middleweight division. [You have] two guys that have lightning whit and lightning speed, two elite middleweights, it’s just a brilliant, brilliant matchup. It’s a 50-50 fight,” Hearn told AB Boxing News.
This will be Andrade’s first middleweight world title fight after previously being the WBO junior middleweight champion from 2013 to 2014. Andrade has been somewhat inactive as of late, but recently signed with Hearn. Andrade was originally supposed to fight on October 6 in Chicago on the first Matchroom Boxing card in the United States streamed on DAZN, but Andrade was then ordered to fight Saunders.
Saunders will be making his fourth middleweight world title defense since winning the belt back in late 2015. Saunders was supposed to defend his title against Martin Murray earlier this year, but Saunders suffered an injury which canceled the fight.
