Horn to Defend Title vs. Corcoran
After his controversial upset victory over Manny Pacquiao, Australian boxer Jeff Horn expected he’d face the Filipino legend again in his next fight.
However, Pacquiao has wavered on whether he will fight again. Horn, who is co-promoted by Pacquaio’s promoter Top Rank, is moving forward and will defend his WBO welterweight title against Gary Corcoran in December.
Top Rank promoter Bob Arum broke the news to ESPN on Tuesday night.
Arum said that the fight has been agreed to but won’t be official until they figure out the specifics of the venue. Their plan is to build a temporary stadium in Horn’s hometown of Brisbane, Australia which will seat around 80,000.
Corcoran has very little experience at the top level, having never fought outside of the U.K. He won his last two fights after losing a British junior middleweight title fight to Liam Williams via 11th round knockout.
Though Horn is moving on from the Pacquiao fight, Arum added that the rematch may happen in 2018.
“If Horn beats this kid [Corcoran], we could do the Pacquiao rematch in the first part of 2018 or go right to a [Horn] fight with Crawford,” Arum said. “Pacquiao might not fight again. Who knows?”
