Hurd to Defend IBF Title Vs. Trout

Jarrett Hurd (20-0, 14 KOs) will defend his IBF junior middleweight title against veteran Austin Trout (30-3, 17 KOs) this summer.

Hurd won the title, the first of his professional career, by beating Tony Harrison in February via ninth-round stoppage. RingTV has announced that Hurd and Austin Trout have struck a deal to fight for the IBF belt this summer.

Hurd’s first title defense will be a major step up in competition. Trout has faced a strong lineup of competition over the course of his career, battling the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Erislandy Lara and Miguel Cotto.

While Hurd may be the less experienced fighter, he is a young and explosive puncher with the majority of his wins coming by way of knockout. The 154-lb. division has grown increasingly stacked, and Hurd vs. Trout is a high-level title fight.

The bout was initially set for a July 15 PBC card but the two sides are reportedly looking at other dates this summer before making anything official.
