Iaquinta Blasts UFC After Retreat

When Al Iaquinta appeared in the crowd at UFC 211, it seemed like his days of butting heads with the UFC brass was behind him. However, following the UFC Fighters’ Retreat in Las Vegas over the weekend, Iaquinta is back to his "Ragin’ Al" ways.

Appearing on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani on Monday, Iaquinta questioned a number of the UFC’s choices, from building a training center for fighters to having Snoop Dogg perform at the Retreat. When he and other fighters feel that they are being underpaid, Iaquinta says that these expensive decisions made by the UFC only distract from the real problem.

“Why the f—k are they making a training center? I never got that,” Iaquinta said. “I never f—ng understood why you have concerts. Snoop Dogg went there? F—ng pay me. I don’t give a f—k about Snoop Dogg. F—ng pay me. I’m hurt, I’m tired, I’m done. F—k it! F—k you, how about that?!”

Iaquinta returned in April after a two year layoff and looked to have not missed a step, knocking out Diego Sanchez in the first round. He has quietly put together a five-fight winning streak with four knockouts, and he wants the credit he deserves.

“You can say whatever you want about whoever, they all get knocked out. Everybody,” Iaquinta said. The only guy that didn’t is Masvidal, and look where he is at right now.”

“This is what they don’t get: I’m the f—ng best. I’m the best. They don’t understand it. But what can I do? I knocked out everybody they put in front of me. I treat them the way they should be treated, I put them out. That’s it. And you’re gonna pay me f—ng bulls—t? F—k you!”

Whether the UFC and Iaquinta will ever settle their differences remains to be seen. Iaquinta seems content with sticking to his real estate career if the UFC doesn’t fix or at least address his concerns about his treatment as a fighter. However, in his recent stint as a UFC-blasting maverick, Iaquinta has perhaps inadvertently become a popular figure that fans want to watch.
