Jacobs-Derevyanchenko Eyed For Fall
It came down to the wire, but Sergiy Derevyanchenko and Daniel Jacobs’ promoters have inked a deal for a fight for the vacant IBF welterweight title.
Derevyanchenko’s promoter, Lou DiBella, and Jacob’s promoter Eddie Hearn, announced the finalized negotiations on Tuesday, moments before a scheduled purse bid at the IBF offices in Springfield, New Jersey.
The two sides did their best to avoid a purse bid, as the two fighters would have taken 50 percent of the winning bid and lead Jacobs to abandon the fight.
No official date has been announced for the co-promoted card, but is set to take place in late October or early November at Madison Square Garden.
“After weeks of negotiating with my dear friend Lou DiBella — delighted to agree terms for Daniel Jacobs vs. Derevyanchenko for the IBF world title on HBO. Date coming soon for NY,” Hearn wrote.
DiBella responded, “Eddie Hearn and I closed a deal for one of the best fights that can be made in the middleweight division. Imagine that — Eddie and I co-promoting a big fight! He’s still a cheeky little bastard, but I look forward to a big card and some good, nasty back and forth.”
Derevyanchenko and Jacobs fight to crown a new IBF welterweight title, after Gennady Golovkin was stripped of the title last month for focusing on a rematch against Canelo Alvarez instead of facing the mandatory challenger Derevyanchenko.
