Jedrzejczyk Leaving Nutrition Team

UFC 217 produced one of the biggest shockers in recent history, as Joanna Jedrzejczyk suffered her first loss in her MMA career, losing via TKO to Rose Namajunas and losing the UFC Women’s Strawweight Championship in the process.

According to Jedrzejczyk in a video interview from her native Poland, a botched plan in the weight cutting for the fight is to blame for her loss. She claims that she had to lose 16 pounds in 14 hours, and that has led her to split up with her now-former nutrition team, Perfecting Athletes.

“It was an accident what happened. I know that I should have won the match, and I know that I could have won the match. The people that I was working with led me to a critical state.”

“I told my doctor I need to do whatever to weigh 115. I don’t care if I have to be in a tub with whatever temperature. It gets harder and harder as you get older to cut weight.”

Jedrzejczyk was very close with Paulina Indara and Michelle Ingels of Perfecting Athletes, especially when Jedrzejczyk was living in Florida while training with American Top Team, even stating that Indara was more like a manager and friend than a coach.

Jedrzejczyk said that while she can forgive the pairing on a personal level, she still needs to separate herself from them.

“The mistakes that they made were unforgivable…I can’t work with those kinds of people.”

Perfecting Athletes did not comment on the situation, citing professional practices and ethics.
