Jones-Santos & Nunes-Holm Headline UFC 239

On Wednesday, the UFC officially announced Jon Jones would not be making his debut at heavyweight, as he will make his second defense of the UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 239.

Jones, who reclaimed the title at UFC 232 against Alexander Gustafsson, will defend the title in the main event of UFC 239 against challenger Thiago Santos.

Santos earned his title opportunity with three straight knockout wins, the most recent coming at UFC Czech Republic, where he knocked out Jan Blachowicz in the third round.

In the co-main event, Women’s featherweight and bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes will return for the first time since her upset first round knockout of Cris Cyborg at UFC 232, as she defends the bantamweight title against former world champion Holly Holm.

Holm was supposed to fight Aspen Ladd on the UFC 235 card, but would be cancelled after Holm signed a six-fight renewal with the UFC, setting up for her fight with Nunes.

Dana White confirmed on the UFC Unfiltered podcast that if Nunes wins, she’ll face Cris Cyborg in a rematch of their 2018 fight.
