Linares Wants Garcia Next
Jorge Linares was able to pull out a victory against Luke Campbell by split decision this past Saturday at the Forum in Inglewood, California. Following that fight, Linares made it clear that he is looking for more competition.
According to his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya Linares is…”the best fighter at 135 pounds,” following the fight on Saturday night. The owner of the WBA title and the RING Magazine belt is on a 12 fight win streak and feels after the fifth round he was able to control the fight.
“I have a great connection with my team and with my trainer, so we worked hard and kept at it. I had to let the dogs out.”
Linares mentioned the man who holds the WBC title at 135 pounds, Mikey Garcia.
“I would like to fight Mikey Garcia next,” said Linares.
And while fans may be gunning to see this fight in 2018, De La Hoya said he and his team need to weigh options for their fighter.
“We’re going to go back to the drawing board. We will see what weight class (Linares) will fight in. If he wants to go up to 140 (pounds). There’s different options for him. We’ll see what happens.”
