Joshua: 95% Chance Wilder Fight Happens
Anthony Joshua is fully on board with a heavyweight title unification fight against Deontay Wilder.
Joshua defeated Joseph Parker to unify the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles earlier this year, meaning a fight against WBC champion Deontay Wilder is all that stands between Joshua and unifying all four heavyweight titles. Joshua spoke with Sky Sports to talk about the current negotiations going on between both fighters’ camps. As it stands, Joshua believes there is a 95 percent chance the fight becomes a reality in 2018, which is more than the 70 percent chance promoter Eddie Hearn recently put the odds of the fight happening.
“The fight is going to happen. Ninety-five percent this year,” Joshua said.
The latest round of negotiations saw Wilder send an offer to Joshua’s camp that include a $50 million purse, but Joshua’s camp scoffed at the validity of such an offer. Despite this, Joshua said he just wants to make the fight happen because there is going to be substantial financial gain for both sides regardless of what type of fight deal they agree to.
“Let’s build this fight to its true potential. I want the fight in the UK and they want it in America,” Joshua said.
“I’m really, really, really interested. You can’t talk about finances anymore because I’m well aware there is financial gain in this fight. So, let’s put that aside and look at the devil in the detail.”
