Karatekas Look To Be At Olympic Level In Instanbul

As it gets closer to the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo, some of the world’s best karatekas descend to Istanbul, for the latest edition of the 2018 Karate 1-Premier League.

The fifth event of the season of Karate’ biggest international competition is gathering the elite to Turkey, for a chance to stand out heading into the next Olympics in Tokyo.

Female Kata Grand Winner Sandra Sanchez will look to route the competition, as chief rival Mo Sheung Grace Lau will be absent from Istanbul this coming weekend.

Local karatekas look to be at the top of their game in Istanbul, as the top competitors at Male Kata, Male Kumite -60kg, Male Kumite -67kg are made up by Turkish karetkas.  Ali Sofuoglu is the leader of Male Kata, while Eray Samdan tops the standings at -60kg  Rafael Aghayev maintains a comfortable lead in Male Kumite -75kg after taking medals in all four previous events.
