Kovalev Claims To Be Ok After Loss
Following a seventh-round knockout against new light heavyweight champion Eleider Alvarez, Sergey Kovalev would skip the post-fight presser to go to a local Atlantic City Hospital.
“I am on my way to the hospital to check my head, check my body,” Kovalev said during a video posted to his Instagram account from Atlantic City Regional Medical Center. “I feel OK. Thank you, everyone. Thank you very much to all the fans around the world for your support. I love you, and I’m fine.”
Prior to the seventh, Kovalev was leading on all three scorecards (59-55,59-55,58-56), but the scorecards wouldn’t matter when Alvarez would send Kovalev down three times in the round, forcing the referee to stop the fight and earning the WBO light heavyweight title.
Alvarez is now contractually committed to a rematch with Kovalev, but Kovalev’s promoter, Kathy Duva has not announced a date for it.
