Lemieux And Saunders Exchange Words At Press conference

The war of words has already begun between Billy Joe Saunders and David Lemieux, as they officially announce their battle for Saunders WBO Middleweight title on December 16th in Laval, Quebec, Canada.

Saunders claims he will do what is needed to put down the hometown favorite, Lemieux.

“If I have to chase him I will chase him, if I have to go toe-to-toe with him I will.”

“David shows a lot of heart when he comes to fight but the truth is I’m too slick and too good for him!”

This will be the third title defense for Saunders, and the first time in his career that he will be fighting outside the United Kingdom..

Saunders is fresh off a comfortable points victory against Willie Monroe Jr last month while Lemeiux makes this his first fight since winning a 10-round decision over Marcos Reyes in May. It was the second win of the year for the 28-year-old Canadian puncher after scoring a third round knockout against Curtis Stevens in March.

Lemieux, who looks to use this fight against Saunders for an opportunity at Canelo Alvarez or Gennady Golovkin, was equally as boisterous on Monday.

“I’m happy, I think he is in for a surprise, I will be at my best for you and take your title from you!”

“I will be victorious at the end of the fight, that is a promise, let’s rumble! Let’s get it on.”

Saunders also looking at the Golovkin or Alvarez prize at the end of the rainbow knows the stakes of the game.

“There is a lot at stake, the winner of this is in line for Canelo or Golovkin, I’ve seen David at his best against GGG.”

Saunders will have trainer Dominic Ingle, by his side for the second time after Ingle whipped Saunders into shape for Saunders fight against Willie Monroe Jr. Ingle claims Saunders is in a very good place.

“Billy is in a very good place and he’s had some brilliant training, fans will be in for a treat in December!”
