Linares Wants Lomachenko, Doesn’t Care When

Jorge Linares, doesn’t care when, where, or what network, all the WBA lightweight champion wants is to fight two-time Olympic gold medal winner Vasyl Lomachenko.

Per a report from Boxing Scene, Lomachenko is set for a return to the ring on May 12th at Madison Square Garden as part of Top Rank’s deal with ESPN.  Golden Boy, who promote Linares are able to do any date following May 12th, as they plan to re-air the Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez rematch on their network partner HBO.

“I do not care about television, I care about the fight,” Linares told Rowerth Goncalves.

“There is talk of a date, on May 12 in New York. It’s a dream to fight at Madison Square Garden. The main detail is the date of the fight and the television network. Lomachenko wants it, I want it and the promoters want it – the problem is the day.”

While Top Rank isn’t budging, neither is Linares, who walks in as the underdog against Lomachenko if they were to fight..

“It’s about the opportunity and how you are physically and mentally ready,” said Linares. “I love fighting with lefties, they do not frustrate me. I am confident in defeating him. I have already beaten lefties. Why not this time?”

If the impasse continues, Lomachenko may end up with a different dance partner in WBO lightweight champion Ray Beltran who share Top Rank as a promoter.
