Valdez, Ramirez Retain Titles

Top Rank Boxing featured two title fights tonight from Tucson, Arizona, and both fights delivered captivating action throughout twelve rounds. In the end, both champions retained their belts but did so against gritty, dangerous challengers.

In the main event, WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez (23-0, 19 KOs) defeated Filipino challenger Genesis Servania (29-1, 12 KOs).

Valdez was fighting in front of his hometown crowd, and seemed to want to give them a show early on. While he dominated the early rounds, he was leaving himself open for counter shots and he paid for it in the fourth round, as Servania dropped him with a hard right hand.

After recognizing that he could not take his challenger easily, Valdez was sharper in the fifth round, where he landed a knockdown of his own with a vicious left hook:

From there it was back and forth between Valdez and Servania, with the challenger landing many powerful shots but failing to sustain a consistent offense.

When the final bell rang, the result was clearly in favor of Valdez, but the two had put on an exciting fight that left the fans satisfied.

Official result: Oscar Valdez defeats Genesis Servania by unanimous decision.

In another world title fight that delivered with great action, WBO super-middleweight champion Gilberto Ramirez (36-0, 24 KOs) defeated the hungry Philadelphia boxer Jesse Hart (22-1, 18 KOs).

The WBO super-middleweight champion was too crisp for the American challenger, dominating the early rounds of the contest and nearly stopping Hart in the second and fourth rounds. Hart battled back however, even managing to stun Ramirez with a right hand in the eleventh round.

Ultimately, it was Ramirez’s relentless pressure and sharp punches that proved to be too much for Hart to overcome. Ramirez won the bout on all judges’ scorecards, but Hart won the respect of the crowd by putting on a fantastic fight.
