Machida Returns At UFC Fight Night 119
According to Combate, former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida ) will take on Derek Brunson at middleweight at UFC Fight Night 119 in Sao Paulo. This would be Machida’s return from the UFC following an 18 month suspension.
UFC Fight Night 119 emanate from the Ibirapuera Gymnasium in Sao Paulo on October 28th. Already set for the card is a light heavyweight bout between Misha Cirkunov and Glover Teixeira.
Machida last fought for the UFC over two years ago and lost three of his last four fights heading into his suspension.
The last time Derek Brunson was in the octagon was when he knocked out Dan Kelly in 76 seconds this past June at UFC Fight Night 110 in New Zealand. Prior to that Brunson was in the midst of a two fight losing streak that saw him knocked out by Robert Whittaker in the UFC Fight Night 101 main event this past November, then lose a decision to Anderson Silva at UFC 208 in February.
Prior to those losses, Brunson had won seven of his first eight fights in the UFC and was on a five-fight winning streak, including four consecutive knockouts of Ed Herman, Sam Alvey, Roan Carneiro and Uriah Hall.
