Manny Focused Only On Broner, Not Mayweather
Even though a potential rematch against Floyd Mayweather is in the cards, Manny Pacquiao is only focused on Adrien Broner and January 19th.
Pacquiao defends his WBA “regular” welterweight title against Broner in less than two weeks in Las Vegas, and the rumor swirling around the fight is the winner will be the next opponent for Mayweather, who began to creep out of his most recent retirement with an exhibition against Tenshin Nasukawa on New Year’s eve.
The Filipino senator said in a new interview leading up to the showdown at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, that he’s only focused on the task in front of him.
“It was the focus [that made me last this long in boxing], I have not thought about what I have achieved, many fighters become lazy because they think about the things they have achieved, that they are champions. But I do not think about what I’ve achieved in my career, I do not think about what I’ve done, I think about what’s coming, in the next fight,” Pacquiao explained to Eduard Cauichi.
“My motivation is my family, the support of the Filipinos, the support of boxing fans. I want to stay at the top of boxing until there is a Filipino who carries the our flag.”
“I’m not thinking about that, my focus is Adrien Broner. It’s all about that. Maybe we can discuss [Mayweather] after this fight,” Pacquiao said of a potential rematch with Mayweather, who defeated Pacquiao in 2015.
“I’m not worried about [what Broner] brings, I just have to stay focused and be 100% conditioned.”
