McGregor: If Floyd Backs Out, I Might Fight Pacquiao

Even if many doubt that a boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and UFC star Conor McGregor will happen, McGregor is preparing as if the fight is already set. Focusing solely on boxing training, McGregor made an interesting remark about his next fight in a social media post this week.

McGregor posted the following clip on Instagram, saying the video was addressed to a young training partner of his that wanted feedback on his boxing routine:

But in the caption for the video, McGregor had an interesting comment about what may happen if the fight with Mayweather falls through:

"Here is a reply video I sent one of my protégés who was seeking advice on some boxing only pad work footage they sent me. I believe you will like it. The focus has been solely boxing lately but make no mistakes, the kicking and grappling aspects, and everything else got to do with unlimited free fighting, is still very much present in my thoughts. Floyd may crap his jocks after all and if so I will go back to true fighting or just pick another boxer like manny or something. But whatever that’s another conversation.
I like to build fighters and watch their progression. I have built many to this date, and all unintentionally. One is fighting in the UFC main event this weekend.
When my son is born I will build him up into a multiple free fighting world champion also. Just like his old man. I look forward to it."

McGregor’s mention of "Manny" is of course a reference to Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao. While it appears that McGregor’s fight with Mayweather is actually close to becoming a reality, and a fight with Pacquiao or any other boxing match has not even been discussed, McGregor is making it clear that he is not going to limit himself to one combat sport in the future.
