McGregor Praises Teammate Lobov

Artem Lobov may have lost to Cub Swanson on Saturday night, but the Russian featherweight made a good account for himself, performing better than many expected and proving that he is more than just a training partner of the sport’s most notorious star, Conor McGregor.

Lobov, unranked heading into the fight, was written off by most of the MMA community, given little to no chance against #4 ranked Swanson. Many criticized that the matchup was made in the first place, believing that Lobov was yet again benefiting from his friendship with McGregor rather than his actual fighting ability.

It may be true that "The Russian Hammer" was given the main event spot because of his famous friend, but he proved on Saturday night that he deserved to be there. He may have been outclassed through the last four rounds of the main event, but he went the distance with Swanson, and landed more significant strikes on the #4 featherweight than any of Swanson’s past opponents.

McGregor was not in Nashville for Lobov’s fight as he is home in Ireland expecting his first child, but he did take to social media after the fight to praise his longtime teammate’s gutsy performance:
