McGregor Won’t Have to Sport Reebok in Mayweather Fight

UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor won’t have to wear Reebok gear for his next fight. Of course, that fight won’t be taking place in the Octagon – instead, he’ll be meeting Floyd Mayweather in a boxing ring on August 26th. But McGregor’s manager, Audie Attar, made it clear on The MMA Hour today that McGregor’s Reebok deal (the individual one he has, and the UFC’s affiliation with them) doesn’t apply here and he can pick up any sponsors he wants for the fight (via MMA Fighting):

“There’s a lot of open categories that we’ve been negotiating with brands, including Reebok,” Attar said. “We’ll see how that all plays out.”

“He’s currently a free agent with regard to athletic apparel. We’re still in discussions with Reebok and other brands.”

When asked if McGregor could wear gear from a Reebok competitor, he stated that it could happen:

“It’s definitely a great opportunity for Conor and any brand we decide to align with,” Attar said.

The bout, which is being promoted by Mayweather Promotions and will air on Showtime, has no official UFC involvement on the promotional side which allows McGregor to wear what he wants, basically. That could earn him another nice payday, since the bout is expected to be the biggest pay-per-view attraction of 2017.

McGregor and Mayweather will meet in a 154-pound, 12-round bout on August 26th in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
