Mighty Mouse Makes 10th Straight Defense

Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson is now in the UFC record books.

Johnson defeated Wilson Reis by third-round submisson in the main event of the 24th edition of UFC on FOX to retain the UFC flyweight championship. This ties him with Anderson Silva for most consecutive title defenses in UFC history.

"GSP and Anderson Silva are great champions but I’m the best champion to ever step into this Octagon," Johnson proclaimed after the fight.

Johnson started the fight off with a leg kick. Reis, hesitating, missed left hand. A few more kicks from Johnson before Reis began to come after the champion. Reis seemed to get Johnson down, but it was barely a takedown; Mighty Mouse got up almost immediately. Johnson attempted a few shots, but Reis dodged. Johnson, however, did score a combination before the end of the first.

Both men tangle up in the center of the Octagon to start off round two. Reis landed a small uppercut on Mighty Mouse. Johnson blocks a switch kick from Reis. Johnson goes behind, but he cannot take down Reis. Both trade off in the center again, and, again, Reis can barely land anything. Reis rolls through and just avoided an attack from the champion. Johnson landed a nice kick to the body of Reis, just under the elbow. Reis attempted multiple times to get a takedown in round two, but Johnson is just too quick. Hard left hand by Johnson — Johnson is just so quick and so much on the offensive that Reis cannot land a counterstrike. Mighty Mouse takes Reis down and starts doing a massive ground and pound, nearly causing a stoppage. But Reis rolled out and the bell sounded.

Couple of leg kicks from both men started round three. Reis tries for a takedown and Johnson sprawls, stopping Reis yet again. There’s a lot of swelling around Reis’ right eye, and it’s closing up. Reis hits a left kick to the body, but he misses with the spinning backfist. Johnson gets an easy takedown in the center of the cage. Johnson gets into side control and lands a few elbows to the head. Reis gets cut on his head from a Johnson elbow. Johnson mounts and gets a ground and pound again before transitioning into an armbar and getting the submission.

Asked if he would look to break Silva’s record or step up to bantamweight, Johnson stated he was looking for a "seven-figure payday."

"Next time we step into this cage, we breaking it!" Johnson said.

Elsewhere on the card, Rose Namajunas hit an amazing kick out of nowhere, just before submitting Michelle Waterson. Namajunas is likely to challenge the winner of next month’s women’s strawweight title fight between Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Jessica Andrade.

Robert Whittaker came away with a huge TKO victory over Jacare Souza, and Renato Moicano defeated Jeremy Stephens via split decision.
