Mikey Garcia Confirms Pacquiao Talks
While Mikey Garcia is enticed by the danger of moving up to face Errol Spence, that fight seems to be on the back burner until 2019.
As mentioned last week, Showtime President Stephen Espinoza is looking to put the welterweight title clash on Pay Per View, but with Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder’s fight heading down the same track in November, Espinoza has made it clear they want the fight next year.
With that essentially pausing any movement on either side, Garcia is still looking for a fight before the end of 2018, and possibly still at welterweight.
Talking with ESPN Deportes, Garcia claimed that talks between his team and Manny Pacquiao have happened.
“There is still more to come, I hope to achieve more things, more triumphs in boxing, so far it has been a very nice race, for my audience. Everything I do is for the public to be happy and with very special recognitions, not just for me but also for my family, for my dad, my brother, it fills me with emotion, it’s a source of pride to represent my family and the public that supports me,” said Garcia to ESPN Deportes.
“I would like to return before the end of the year, Errol Spence is the fight that interests me the most, the one that motivates me the most. We have also talked a little bit with Manny Pacquiao’s team, and there is interest too.”
