Nunes vs. Shevchenko Targeted for UFC 213
UFC 213, which takes place at the end of the UFC’s annual "International Fight Week", looks like it will have its second championship bout. Women’s bantamweight champ Amanda Nunes is reportedly in talks to defend her belt against Valentina Shevchenko at the July 8 event.
MMAFighting reported that the fight is being targeted but the UFC has yet to officially announce the bout.
The fight will take place almost exactly one year since Nunes (14-4) won the belt, as she beat Miesha Tate at UFC 200 to win the title. She then defended the belt at UFC 207 against former champ Ronda Rousey, steamrolling MMA’s former queen in one of the most-watched pay-per-view events of all time.
Nunes will face Shevchenko, who has been on a tear since dropping a decision loss to Nunes back in March of 2016. Shevchenko defeated former champ Holly Holm by decision in July of last year, and then submitted Julianna Pena this January to secure her spot as the #1 contender.
The women’s title fight will join the men’s bantamweight title fight between champion Cody Garbrandt and former champ TJ Dillashaw.
