Okami Makes Weight for Fight Night 117
On Thursday, the UFC held its weigh-ins for UFC Fight Night 117 fighter which took place from the UFC’s host hotel in Tokyo. There are no ceremonial weigh-ins for the fans for this event.
UFC Fight Night 117 takes place Friday night in the United States(Saturday morning in Japan) at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, near Tokyo. The card airs on FXX following an early prelim on UFC Fight Pass.
The two men in the main event Yushin Okami and Ovince Saint Preux both made weight for their light heavyweight faceoff. Strawweight co-headliners Jessica Andrade and Claudia Gadelha also made weight without issue and weighed 116 and 115, respectively.
Okami, who has been fighting at welterweight, is returning to the UFC on short notice to fill in for injured Mauricio Rua. Okami made weight without an issue. In fact, per MMA Junkie unlike most fighters, he didn’t even strip down to his underwear and instead wore regular shorts and tipped the scale at 203.5 pounds – well under the 206-pound limit. Saint Preux, meanwhile, weighed 206.
Most fighters hit the scale and successfully made weigh, yet Mizuto Hirota, who narrowly made the two-hour window given for the weigh-ins weighed 150 pounds, four pounds over the 146-limit for featherweights.
Hirota seemed a bit dazed as he weighed in, meets Charles Rosa who weighed 145.5, in the main-card opener.
The bout will continue with Hirota being fined 30 percent of his purse, which goes to Rosa.
